Topeka, KS – [March 26, 2025] – Envista Federal Credit Union joined forces with the Topeka Police Department to host a free breakfast seminar for credit union members and the Topeka community, focused on fraud prevention and education. The event, Fighting Fraud 101, was held Thursday, March 27 at the Envista Mortgage Building Event Center, located at 3620 SW Wanamaker Road.
The seminar was presented by Jennifer Vance, AVP of Compliance and Risk Management at Envista, and Detective Joe Kinnett, a 22-year veteran of TPD. Kinnett has spent the last eight years in the Financial Crimes Unit, serves on the federal Cyber Fraud Task Force, and is a part of Operation Shamrock, a group that is leading the charge to combat specific cyber-based scams.
Attendees of the event learned about common scam tactics, how to recognize red flags, and practical steps to protect themselves, their loves ones, and their finances. Time was held at the end of the presentation for questions.
“Fraud is becoming more sophisticated and prevalent every day,” said Vance. “At Envista, we believe it’s our responsibility to help educate and empower our members and our community to stay informed and vigilant. We’re grateful for Detective Kinnett’s partnership and the support of TPD to help fight fraud through events like this.”
This seminar is part of a broader, ongoing effort to fight the growing risk of fraud. Envista and the TPD will continue to explore additional events and opportunities to help educate, inform, and empower individuals to protect their personal and financial information.
Envista and the TPD are united in their commitment to protecting the communities they serve. As fraud tactics continue to evolve, both organizations recognize the importance of proactive education and awareness. Envista has developed a web page offering helpful videos, tools and resources to help combat the risk of becoming a victim to fraud.
